Plan demand per location: Determine consumption and ordering cycle

by Anna Ullmann on Jul 14, 2026

Reliable site supply does not start with a long list of items, but with actual consumption. Different team sizes, working methods, and visitor numbers lead to varying demands.

Collect consumption data

For three to six months, record which items are ordered in what quantity. Particularly relevant are copier paper, hygiene articles, coffee, shipping materials, and frequently used stationery.

Compare locations

Consumption quantities should be considered in relation to the number of employees, opening days, or customer numbers. This makes unusually high or low values visible.

Minimum stock and reorder point

The minimum stock protects against bottlenecks. The reorder point determines when to reorder and takes into account delivery time and safety reserve.

Define ordering rhythm

Plannable items can be bundled weekly, monthly, or quarterly. Unnecessary small orders decrease without locations building up excessive inventories.

Checklist

  • Record employees and usage per location
  • Prioritize consumption items
  • Consider delivery times
  • Define minimum and reorder points
