Ergonomics Guide Monitor arm or monitor stand: Which is better? A monitor arm is particularly flexible and creates space on the desk. A monitor stand is simpler, stable, and often the quick solution for a better screen height. The correct monitor height is an important part of an ergonomic workstation. If the screen is too low, the head is often tilted forward. This can make the working day unnecessarily uncomfortable. Setting up ergonomic workstations: Chair, desk, monitor, and lighting In a nutshell Ergonomics is created by the interaction of chair, desk, monitor, and light, not by a single high-quality piece of furniture. An expensive office chair with a misplaced monitor is less effective than simple, but perfectly coordinated basic equipment. Ergonomics is not created by a single product. Office chair, desk, monitor position, light, keyboard, mouse, and changes in movement must all fit together. Components of an ergonomic workstation individually adjustable office chair appropriate desk height or height-adjustable desk monitor at suitable height and distance low-glare lighting for computer work sufficient space for movement accessories such as monitor arm, footrest or wrist rest Consider movement A good workstation supports changes in posture. Sit-stand work, short distances and dynamic sitting can help to avoid rigid positions. Frequently Asked Questions What is more important, the chair or the desk? Both together. A good chair without a suitable desk height is as useless as a height-adjustable desk without a suitable chair. Is a height-adjustable desk alone enough for movement in everyday life? It helps, but it does not replace conscious breaks and regular changes in posture during the workday. Should ergonomics be checked individually for each workstation? Yes, body size and activity differ, but a uniform basic equipment should still remain individually adjustable.
